I'm slowly but surely going through the photos I shot while in Phnom Penh one week before heading to the States. By this time next week I should have a photo album posted on the blog. Writing text to accompany the photos is much more challenging than I'd expected. Stan Sesser of the Asian Wall Street Journal best summed up the conundrum when he titled his Southeast Asia essay collection "The Lands of Charm and Cruelty". Perfect description.
I enjoyed your blog this evening! Thanks and keep up the solid work!

I am a beginner at photography. My favorite subjects are Thai women, whom I consider the most beautiful in the world. My problem is trying to get candid shots of them. I think it might be considered rude to just go to a marketplace and shoot without permission. But when I ask for permission, and the subject poses, the picture is lost. All the character and beauty that I saw is gone in a bland pose.
Do you have any advice?

Three phrases should be among the most common in our daily usage. They are: Thank you, I am grateful and I appreciate.
